Scottish Athletics Age Group Championships

There were two medals, a flurry of PBs and lots of great experiences for the seven athletes who competed at the Scottish Athletics Age Group Championships from the Orkney Athletic and Running Club on the 28th and 29th of August.

On day one, in the Under 15 girls, Molly Tulloch very narrowly missed out on the final of the 300m, with a time of 45.36.  Abi Coltherd made it into the final and took bronze, with a new PB of 43.07.  Emily McArthur started the 800m really strongly but unfortunately had to pull out in the second lap with pain in her leg.  Emily came back well in the afternoon though, with both her and Molly qualifying for the semi-finals of the 200m in a PB of 28.08 and 28.66 respectively.  In the semi-finals, Emily ran 28.17 and Molly 28.70.  All three girls have another year to go in this age group, so it’s very promising for next season.

In the Under 15 boys, Max Linklater cleared a new PB of 1.67m and took silver in the high jump.  He then went on to throw a new PB in the shot put of 9.77m.  Jamie Sutherland also set a great new PB in the javelin, coming fourth with a throw of 39.03m.

Tegan Spence had her first event of the weekend in the the U20 women’s 200m.  She very narrowly missed out on the final but was delighted with a new PB of 26.68.

Day two saw Tegan competing again, this time in the 400m.  She made it through to the final comfortably and finished it in fourth.  Although she didn’t get the PB she was hoping for, she thoroughly enjoyed her races.  Rafi Linklater was also hoping for a PB in the Under 13 girls javelin, but it wasn’t to be on the day.  She finished fourth though, a great result for her first major competition.

It was a great weekend for the athletes.  Thanks go to the coaches who help them prepare for it.
